A man wakes up after sleeping
under an advertised blanket,
on an advertised mattress,
pulls off advertised pajamas,
bathes in an advertised shower,
shaves with an advertised razor,
brushes his teeth with advertised toothpaste,
washes with advertised soap,
puts on advertised clothes,
drinks a cup of advertised coffee,
drives to work in an advertised car,
and then, refuses to advertise,
believing it doesn't pay.
Later when business is poor,
he advertises it for sale.
Why is it?

So what is in a name?

From a business perspective, your business name is very important as you want to be remembered. Just yesterday a ute (see below) drove passed me with this name painted on it: J.S & M Removals.

 

How many times do you see businesses named like this?

What does it tell you about the business?

Could that printed sign on the ute offer more than just J.S & M Removals?

 

So what does this have to do with eBay? Well all of you have an eBay ID and where as a buyer, your name means very little, as a seller it means everything.

 

Can you easily tell someone your name over the phone?

Can your name be easily pronounced?

Does your name offer words that may be off-putting to your buyers?

 

Recently I offered advice to a customer that the name they were using gave me a totally different impression to what they were selling. They totally agreed with me and changed their name to something more appropriate. The new name reflects their business and what their business is all about. Now every time they give feedback, their name alone is advertising what they sell.

 

Now that is REAL FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

I have contacted Oztion twice about the offending banner and still they have NOT removed it - OZtion have no idea and I can only assume they are a group of computer geeks with very little to no business experience!
